Bach and Buxtehude at Easter
Sunday April 29th 7pm
St Edmundsbury Cathedral
tickets available HERE
Our spring concert in 2018 will be our biggest project to date, pairing Bach’s great Easter cantata BWV 4 Christ lag in Todesbanden with Buxtehude’s equally fine, but sadly less well known, Easter cantata Heut’ triumphieret Gottes Sohn.
The choir will be joined by an orchestra of strings and, in the Buxtehude, trumpets and timpani. Also featured will be a Magnificat by Buxtehude and Bach’s motet Lobet dem Herrn. On this occasion we will also welcome the return of some of our past Choral Apprentices and organist Richard Moore (who played with us for the In Paradisum and Blow the Trumpet programmes).
We appreciate sponsors at all times to help us in our work, but would particularly welcome anyone wishing to support players or scores for this special concert. For more information email firstname.lastname@example.org
Winter concert (programme to be announced)
Sunday December 9th 7pm
St Peter ad Vincula, Coggeshall
Many thanks to everyone who supported our Choral Steeplechase. Our final total was £2415 . We surpassed our 2014 tally by singing in 33 churches in Ipswich, Hintelsham, Boxstead, Hadleigh, Newton Green, Sudbury and Bures ending up in the wonderful St Stephen’s Chapel. We started at 10am and sang through the day until 6pm performing a short unaccompanied work in each church before racing on to the next steeple. It was hard work but enormous fun and we hope that the visitors to all the churches enjoyed our short performances. We certainly enjoyed singing! All money raised will be divided between the Suffolk Historic Churches Trust and the choir’s Choral Apprenticeship scheme for young singers, as well as helping to fund young players for forthcoming programmes.
Our ‘Choral Steeplechase’ is part of the annual Ride & Stride event which raises many thousands of pounds for the repair and upkeep of historic churches.
Listen to us on the Meet My Choir slot on Radio 3’s ‘The Choir’ programme.
